5 ways chiropractic care can transform your health and wellness.

Maybe you’ve been to a chiropractor and maybe you haven’t. My hope is that if you have been to one, it was an amazing experience! However, if you have been to a chiropractor and it wasn’t the best experience or you have never been…I’m going to hit the high points of why it’s important to find a solid chiropractor and to keep them on speed dial!

So a little history lesson…chiropractic originated back in 1895 when the first adjustment was performed and documented! So yes, it has been around for quite some time. However, due to the “holistic” practice that some call quackery, it is still considered a form of medical treatment that many don’t want to know about or have been told to avoid it at all costs. Now when I saw to find a solid chiropractor, I truly mean it. Coming from a chiropractor…there are several who I would not send my parents to. I’m not trying to bash the entire profession, but if the chiropractor demands X-Rays on the first visit and to track progress, RUN. Also, if the chiropractor wants you to sign up for a huge care plan with payment made up front, RUN. If the chiropractor does not take a thorough exam and maybe spends 2 minutes with you, RUN. If your chiropractor says your bone is out of place, RUN. These are a few reasons why this profession is still on the uphill battle of being recognized as standard, preventative treatment in the medical space.

So what is chiropractic? The Doctor of Chiropractor, or allowed by some states, Chiropractic Physician is a portal of entry doctor. This means that you do not need a medical referral. Chiropractic school is nearly 4 years of intense learning to pass 5 National Board exams. They are also required to maintain licensure every year with varying levels/hours of Continuing Education. So yes, we’re legit doctors!

Okay, now that we’ve come this far, I suppose I better tell you about the 5 ways chiropractors can transform your health and wellness!

  1. Chiropractors restore joint motion through the chiropractic adjustment, thus increasing your mobility and ability to move your body!

  2. The adjustment provides temporary relief of pain due to the way the receptors in the joints relay signaling from the area of pain, to the pain centers in the brain, and back. It’s not uncommon for your headaches, low back pain, jaw pain, or whatever you’re dealing with, to improve after one visit…but it often takes more than this

  3. Your chiropractor should be taking your entire health into account! Meaning he should be instructing you on other wellness and lifestyle habits, such as sleep, nutrition, exercise, supplementation, and more.

  4. A 5-star chiropractor will do more than just adjust your spine and send you on your way. They should be doing soft tissue therapy and various exercises to “reprogram” your Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal system to adapt and change how it functions, for the better.

  5. Chiropractic is great for stimulating the immune system and other organ function. Now I’m not saying there is a direct correlation with getting adjusted and it curing anything! But what I do know is that when there are spinal restrictions, the nervous system in that area is almost “numb” to any function or let’s say it is down-regulated. So when you are adjusted, the joint motion is restored and the specific areas of the brain that connect with that region, “light up”, and the nerves that communicate with other “tissues” are able to fire/signal better.

Now, there are so many different styles of chiropractic care out there. That is why it is important to seek out a referral from either family, friends, or health practitioner to find the chiropractor that is right for you.
